FRANK J. MULLANEY - President. LEED AP
Over the past 34 years Mr. Mullaney has been involved in the fields of residential, commercial, industrial, municipal and institutional construction. As a result he has extensive knowledge of quality control, scheduling, cost reduction and value engineering. In addition, he is well versed in dealing with all regulatory agencies at local, state and federal levels that involve inspections, documentation and code compliance. Mullaney has dealt with and successfully managed numerous trades and mechanics plus skilled and unskilled labor in all facets of construction. He is owner of The Beacon Projects Group, Inc., which was founded in 1994.
Mr. Mullaney is a member of the U.S. Green Building Council and is certified as a Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design Accredited Professional (LEED AP). LEED is the nationally accepted benchmark for design, construction and operation of high performance 'green' buildings. As such, he brings to Beacon the broad knowledge and complete understanding of 'green' building practices and principles.
Mr. Mullaney's experience covers construction projects in Connecticut, New York, New Jersey and Pennsylvania where he has served in many roles, such as the project manager, construction manager, owner's representative, has conducted building assessments, directed energy audits and, in cases where a dispute arises between the owner and contractor, as an expert witness, which includes testimony in court if necessary.
In these varied positions Mullaney has supervised work in the construction of multi-screen movie complexes, luxury homes, apartments and condominiums, retail shopping centers, restaurants, jewelry distribution center with large custom concrete vault, the meeting house of a church, regional high school, nursing home and an exclusive yacht club. TAYLOR E. STRUBINGER P.E. – Senior Associate
Mr. Strubinger has been involved in design and construction management projects throughout the world during his more than 35 years as a professional engineer. He is broadly experienced in all facets of the construction industry.
An associate of The Beacon Projects Group, Mr. Strubinger has worked for the Bechtel Corporation as manager of refinery and chemical projects and large commercial and industrial projects. Subsequent to that he was executive vice president and director of operations for the George A. Fuller Company, overseeing a $500 million job in Saudi Arabia as well as many domestic assignments in the $20 to $70 million range.
Later Mr. Strubinger was president of Welton Becket Associates’ construction management subsidiary with responsibility for jobs in China, South Korea, Saudi Arabia, Russia (the 1980 Olympic Center) and the United States. Recently he managed renovation work at the Waldorf-Astoria Hotel in New York City and is currently providing construction management direction for owners and tenants in tenant fit up work in several East Coast cities.
Mr. Strubinger is registered - by examination - as a professional engineer in Connecticut, New York and Missouri. He continues as a panel member of the American Arbitration Association for resolution of construction disputes (both as mediator and arbitrator) and the panel of mediators for the New York City School Construction Authority. He has been an instructor at New York University, lecturing on managing and operating the construction organization.
Mr. Strubinger holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering from Washington University in St. Louis and has taken courses in structural design, business administration, Spanish, German, computer programming, computerized accounting and Microsoft Office Pro.
RICHARD R. VAILLENCOURT. P.E.. LEED AP - Senior Associate
Vice president of Lime Energy Consulting and Technical Services www.lime-energy.com, Mr. Vaillencourt has degrees in both mechanical and electrical engineering and has over 25 years of practical experience as a designer and project manager in electrical construction, an industrial plant engineer, an industrial corporate energy manager and worked for several ESCOs. Since 1989 he has provided engineering review services for many electric utilities, e.g., Green Mountain Power, Cape Cod Light Compact and NStar in support of their customer incentive programs as well as site inspections for verification purposes. He has presented several papers at the World Energy Engineering Congress over the years and has authored the book Simple Solutions to Energy Calculations, now in its third edition. Mr. Vaillencourt has also been published in Energy Engineering, Strategic Planning for Energy and the Environment and Energy User News. He also teaches Building Operator Certification classes in facility electrical systems, energy conservation techniques, efficient lighting fundamentals, HVAC systems and HVAC controls.
Mr. Vaillencourt and his company have performed energy evaluations at a number of military bases and research facilities including CIA headquarters, Langley, Va., Naval Undersea Warfare Center, Newport, R.I., Redstone Arsenal, Huntsville, Ala., U.S. Naval Support Activity facility, Naples, Italy, Carderock Naval Surface Warfare Center, West Bethesda, Md., Aberdeen Proving Ground, Aberdeen, Md., Philadelphia Navy Yard, Fort Story, Va. and Fort Eustis, Va.
They have also performed energy evaluations at commercial and industrial locations such as the John Hancock Center, Boston, Organichem, Renssalaer, N.Y., Pfizer, Groton, Conn., Bayer Pharmaceuticals, West Haven, Conn., Durham Manufacturing, Durham, Conn. and InteliCoat, Inc., South Hadley, Mass. They have done similar evaluations for hotel and hospitality industry facilities including The Four Seasons and Maritime Hotel, New York City, Ramada Inn, Hartford, Conn., Sheraton Harborside, Portsmouth, N.H., Marriott, Albany, N.Y., Marriot, Tampa, Fla., Georgetown (Mass.) Country Club, and The Hartford (Conn.) Club.
MARC CAPUTO, RRC – LEED AP - Senior Associate
Mr. Caputo has been involved with roofing and waterproofing since 1976. His early experience included positions with roofing and waterproofing manufacturers in field technical service, product management and national sales.
Since 1989 he has worked as an independent building envelope consultant specializing in roofing and waterproofing.In 1993, having satisfied the educational and testing requirements of RCI, Inc (formerly the Roof Consultants Institute) he became a Registered Roof Consultant. (RRC)
Mr. Caputo has developed roofing expertise in both low slope (built-up, modified, steel and single ply) and steep slope (asphalt, slate, tile, wood and sheet metal) assemblies. His primary waterproofing expertise is in plaza deck and foundations. Building envelope expertise is primarily in designing watertight connections and flashing between cladding, window and door components.
He conducts a broad range of roof surveys and investigations for commercial and institutional clients; performs design consultation for architects and engineers; prepares drawings and specifications, and provides quality assurance observation during construction. He has assisted attorneys involved in litigation and has served as an expert witness.
Mr. Caputo has been active since 1989 in RCI, including having served as an instructor at various Institute seminars. He is currently chairman of the RCI Bylaws Committee and serves on the RRC Test Revision Task Force.
J. TODD GAMBINO - Senior Associate
Mr. Gambino has 20 years' involvement in the construction industry covering a range of projects in which he has been a construction manager, real estate developer, program manager and business manager. Such responsibilities have included property/project feasibility studies, identifying target markets and review of environmental compliance, creation of project teams for approvals plus pre-construction and cost reviews.
Mr. Gambino is a managing principal with Construction Consulting Group for Systems and Development which has projects based in Connecticut, New York and New Jersey. He has been vice president of construction for The Barrett Companies in Fort Lee, New Jersey, regional manager for HRH/Atlas Construction in Closter, New Jersey and vice president of construction for Atlas Construction Company in Stamford, Connecticut.
A specialist in pre-construction services, Mr. Gambino has ongoing consulting relations with such clients as Tarragon Development, Pulte Homes and the Spinnaker Companies. These national developers have recognized his ability to analyze projects in the conceptual stage and determine the financial hurdles so that decisions regarding project costs, development team and constructability are properly considered.
WILLIAM SORBY – Senior Associate
Mr. Sorby has over 36 years of construction experience in the fields of heavy highway, bridge, industrial and residential site construction. His experience lies in 30 years of surveying, for land surveyors, photogrammetric control, construction layout, topography and coastal and geodetic control. He has been a senior project superintendent for many multi-million dollar New York State Department of Transportation projects, as well as large private, industrial and residential projects. He has been in his own excavation business for 20 years. He has developed a program to instruct construction workers and contractors in plan reading and elementary surveying. He now works as a consultant and prepares estimates for several excavation site and paving contractors.
